My mommy tattoo

So I have been dying to get this mommy tattoo ever since Mayson was born.  I never got around to it cause I always found a reason not to.  Its to much money, I can't afford it, I don't know where I want it, I don't know how long it would take, etc..  Well this February, I just did it.  I took the location from another girl I know with a cute flower tattoo in the spot I put my footprints.  I went in with my kids baby books, and at this point I was really glad I had talked myself out of it for so long, cause this way, I had all the kids I was gonna have, and I was able to get them all done by the same artist so they are all the same style.

In the beginning I wasn't gonna have any type of identification in them, I figured I would know who's print was who's, but at the last minute I changed my mind and decided to put the first letter of my kid's name in the heel of their print.  So glad I did, it gives the tattoo a more personal feel to it.

My first print is Mayson's.  In the front of my shoulder.  This one terrified me.  I had heard that tattoos on the front or in the chest area were super painful.  I was totally wrong.  This didn't hurt a bit.  I barely felt it, it was quick and painless. and I was proud of myself for not crying or squirming, lol. Yeah, and you notice the white powdery residue on my shirt, that's deodorant.  Can't say I stink now can you? lol

The second print is Dylan's.  And while I know he's my last baby, the way the three kids footprints were in the books, this was the way it had to be if I wanted the left, right, left thing instead of the left, left right thing. This one wasn't as bad as I expected either.  The bottom of the print where the heel and the cute personalized letter D is, not a thing, didn't bother me at all, but when he worked his way up to the padding and the toes, oofta, I started to feel it.  It wasn't fun, lol.  But so worth it.

The third print is Carlie's.  And this one hurt like the dickens.  I don't know if it was because it was the last one and my body finally figured out something was sticking me with a needle over and over, or if the area is just way more sensitive than the front.  I'm going to go with the latter on that, cause my Dragon on the other side of my back hurt from the beginning and took just as long as the footprints. Like I said before though, it was totally worth it.  And while sitting through this I had a stroke of genius and have already planned out my next tat. So after 9 years of waiting and talking myself out of THIS one, lets see how long it takes for me to get the one floating around in my head.

I LOVE my mommy tattoo, it took about 20 minutes per footprint and totaled about an hour.  I paid 150 for it and I get compliments all the time and people tell me they want to do it.  Ad that doesn't even bother me, cause even though they are copying my idea, I have one of a kind footprints that can never be duplicated (well until Mike grows a pair and gets his done, lol)

For those that want to know, I got this done by Chad Whitson at Vital Lines tattoo in Pacific Beach here in the San Diego area. Check out this link to learn more about Vital Lines tattoo
